URGENT – CHARTER LEGISLATION IN SPAIN

It has been brought to our attention that there are some rumors in the industry, that the legislation re the charter of foreign flagged vessels in Spanish waters has been changed and that it would be legal to do so from now on. We would like to advise all our clients URGENTLY, that it has been confirmed by Spanish officials that this is false information. Legislation regarding foreign flagged vessels chartering in Spain (including the Balearic Islands) remains the same as it has been in the past until further notice. We all hope that the Spanish government will be reviewing this in the near future and we will of course keep you updated once there is any news.

A REPLICA OF THE FIRST SHIP TO CIRCUMNAVIGATE THE WORLD CAN BE VISITED IN BARCELONA

A replica of the first ship to circumnavigate the globe is currently moored at the Moll de la Fusta in Barcelona´s port. “Victoria” was the only one out of five to come back home after it made an around-the-world voyage in search of the Spice Islands in 1522.
Prior to docking in Barcelona the replica of the Spanish carrack had sailed around the world with the crew living under the same conditions as in the 16th century.
Visitors can go on board and learn its story first hand until March 2012.

A NEW BERTHING & CRUISING TAX IN ITALY

A new yacht-berthing and yacht-cruising tax is set to go into effect in Italy on May 1, 2012. The tax impacts any yacht cruising in Italian waters. The tax will be levied on a per-day basis based on LOA, starting at about 33 feet (10.01 meters). The larger the yacht, the larger the monetary amount.
It is not yet clear if and how the new legislation will be applied, since a number of marine organizations are lobbying the Italian government in an effort to amend the law.
